Abstract
Some of the external factors influencing the high temperature water and steam corrosion properties of two zirconium alloys have been investigated. These studies coupled with eight years of extensive corrosion testing of samples and reactor components have shown that surface preparation and the manner in which the corrosion test is performed greatly influences the resultant corrosion behavior. Cleaning, pickling, and linsing of the metal surfaces, autoclave preparation, operation and cleanliness are described. Proper fixturing for the pickling and pressurized water testing are detailed.
