Abstract
Larvae in the laboratory were reared from the 1st instar to the pupal stage on a reconstituted, lyophilized cotton square powder to measure aspects of antibiosis in cotton lines to the bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie). Measurable criteria of antibiosis are percentage survival and weight gain of larvae, number of days required for development to pupation, percentage pupation, and pupal weights. The technique may be applied to similar studies with other species of insects, particularly within the order Lepidoptera. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
