Unusual Electroencephalographic and Clinical Evolution of a Case of Meningioma of the Left Temporo-Occipital Convexity

Abstract
A 55-year-old woman showed progressive disturbances of memory and affectivity, and later on, partial crises of the aphemic type, occasionally followed by secondary generalization. After 6 years, a meningioma of the left temporo-occipital convexity was removed. The post-operative course was that of progressive dementia, with terminal myoclonic status at the 21st month. The pre- and post-operative electroencephalographic changes show the progressive development and organization of periodic activity patterns, as seen in spongiform encephalopathies. The anatomic data, in spite of contingent artifacts, raise the question of a relationship between paroxysmal periodic EEG activity, ''cerebral oedema in meningioma'', and spongious cerebral lesions.
