Abstract
Sterile whole milks containing from <0.1 to 100 ppm of dieldrin and heptachlor were inoculated with Streptococcus lactis A254, S. lactis A62, Streptococcus cremoris E-8, S. lactis var. diacetilactis 1816 and Lactobacillus casei and incubated for 48 hr at appropriate temperatures. In addition, milks containing similar amounts of methoxychlor and malathion were inoculated with S. lactis A254 and L. casei and incubated 48 hr at 32 C. Samples removed at 0, 24 and 48 hr were examined for number of viable organisms, pH, and titratable acidity. The insecticides had little or no effect on the growth or fermentation ability of the organisms. Keywords
