Abstract
Measurements are reported for the angular dependence of the 6-eV binding-energy peak in the photoemission spectra of Ni(100) at the photon-energy threshold for the creation of holes. At this threshold Guillot et al. have observed a strong enhancement of this peak which they ascribe to a Fano-type resonance. Our results show that both the polar and azimuthal dependences are very similar to those obtained by electron stimulation of the Auger emission and we discuss the possibility that the enhancement is dominated by conventional Auger processes.
