Quantum Treatment of Multiple Real Transitions

We give a quantum-mechanical derivation of the probability that an energetic particle, interacting with an extended many-particle system which possesses a large number of eigenstates lying close together in energy, will excite $n$ of these eigenstates during an interaction time $t$.
