Abstract
We report here that: 1) Gamma-acetylenic GABA(GAG), a GABA transaminass inhibitor which increases brain GABA levels, blocked PMS-induced ovulation in immature rats;2)the effect of GAG was antagonized by bicuculline and reversed by hCG and LHRH; 3)intraventricular injection of either GABA or GAG was able to block ovulation;4) in contrast, systemic administration of GABA had no effect on ovulation. The results suggest that GABA exerts at a central level an inhibitory action on the neuroendocrine mechanisms involved in the cyclic control of gonadotropin secretion. Keywords
