Abstract
Fast (0.35–1.2-MeV) ions produced by double electron capture have been observed in -He collisions. The thickness of the gas-jet target (4×– atoms/) has been calculated without any separate calibration. Single-collision conditions have allowed a direct measurement of the total cross section of the double electron capture. These data can be related to the development of theoretical studies on double electron capture.
