An Epidemic of Acute Watery Diarrhea in Alabama

Abstract
An epidemic of diarrhea in Pinson, Ala., in Oct., 1946, was studied. 172 persons (40% of the population) were involved. The symptoms were nausea, watery diarrhea and prostration. Water, food and milk were excluded as sources of infection. Bacteriological examinations were negative and virus studies were negative to date. The high incidence of secondary cases (43.7%) indicated that the diarrhea was communicable.
