Abstract
Seven cows exhibiting hypoglycemia and ketonemia and typical signs and symptoms of uncomplicated ketosis received massive doses of thiamine, either intraven. or orally or both, in combination with other B vitamins for periods of from 5 to 19 days. Only one of the cows recovered during treatment. All of the crystalline B vitamins were used in the study which included nicotinic acid, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin, pyridoxine, p-amino benzoic acid, inositol, biotin, and choline. Two cows with ketosis received 12.5 grn. of dl-methionine intraven. for periods of 5 and 8 days; the latter also received 12.5 gm. per os during the same 8-day period. The methionine was ineffective in both cases. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
