Ureteral Function in Patients with Pyelonephritis

Abstract
Changes in ureteral function were evaluated on electroureterograms and vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) cystograms in a total of 14 patients, 26–70 years of age, who had been diagnosed as having chronic pyelonephritis by urine study and pyelography. Results included the following: 1) Abnormalities with evidence of degeneration in ureteral function were observed on electroureterograms in nine patients. 2) In four of these nine, VUR was also seen. These findings suggest that the decrease in ureteral function and the presence of VUR are both significantly related to the onset of pyelonephritis.
