Abstract
Alkaloids in the roots and rhizones were extracted and separated into 2 fractions: one soluble in ether, the other insoluble in ether but soluble in CCl4. These fractions were tested with several insects, particularly Periplaneta americana, to determine their insecticidal action. The ether-soluble fraction was quite toxic to most insects tested; the ether-insoluble fraction was non-toxic. Standardization of the drug for insecticidal purposes might perhaps be based upon the fraction of alkaloids soluble in ether.
