Abstract
Results of batch experiments on the release of Cd and Pb from dredge spoil suspended in estuarine water of different salinity show that in contrast to other published results the cation exchange reactions have no importance for the degree of mobilization. A considerable release of Cd up to 25% was observed only in long‐term experiments. A significant Pb release could not be stated in any case. The addition of antibiotics to the system caused an interruption of the remobilization process. The results are discussed with special emphasis on the role of bacteria for the release of Cd during the decomposition of organic matter. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
