Abstract
Tries to unravel some main issues in the debate about whether Europe lags behind the USA in the IT revolution. Discusses also the supply and demand aspects of IT, following up with some broader policy options to stimulate the production and diffusion of IT within Europe. Employs copious figures and tables to aid in the explanation. Sums up that Europe lags in the IT sector, but it has a strong position in telecommunications.
