Abstract
Phase conjugation of a plane-polarized bulk wave by surface plasmons on a metal surface coated with an isotropic and transparent nonlinear dielectric is considered. The expressions for the s- and p-polarized phase-conjugate waves are given for arbitrary angle of incidence and arbitrary polarization direction of the probe wave and an arbitrary direction of propagation of two counterpropagating pump waves of surface plasmons. The reaction of the phase-conjugate wave on the probe wave is not taken into account. A reflectivity of the order of 10-4 is expected for a vacuum–CS2–Ag system at ruby-laser frequency. Keywords
