Abstract
Areas of dystrophic calcification present in the epithelial lining of 2 apical periodontal cysts in patients exhibited an outer layer of hyalin material. Similar calcific areas in the connective tissue walls do not show hyalin boundaries. Hyalin material was found around muscle fibers present in the epithelial lining of a residual dental cyst. The hyalin material is apparently secreted by the epithelial cells; these observations are considered to be supporting evidence that hyalin bodies arise as an epithelial secretion.
