Abstract
We find the tidal force from the class of cosmic-string traveling waves of Vachaspati. The tidal force from a straight string vanishes. In contrast the tidal force from the curved strings treated here actually diverges as the string is approached. This tends to change the implications of a recent paper by Clarke, Ellis, and Vickers on the relation between string curvature and tidal force. Keywords
