Abstract
Experience obtained at Ontario Hydro with the operation of hydraulic units under islanding conditions has demonstrated that the speed control parameters of the unit governors are critical. The requirements for good stability of speed control under islanding conditions or other isolated modes of operation can be in direct conflict with the parameter settings required for fast plant response under synchronous operation on the interconnected network of which Ontario Hydro forms a part. Keywords
