Abstract
Magnetic fields may alter the flexural resonant frequencies of vibrating reeds that possess anisotropic magnetic susceptibility. The magnitude of the effect is a quadratic in the field strength. It is also a function of field orientation, the reed’s aspect ratio and Young’s modulus, the vibrational mode, and the magnetic susceptibility tensor. This phenomenon can provide a direct and extremely sensitive measure of magnetic anisotropy. Keywords
