Abstract
Patients (48) with metastatic breast cancer and extensive bone involvement were treated with salm-calcitonin [salmon-calcitonin] and polychemotherapy or hormonal treatment. They were compared with a control group of 73 patients without calcitonin therapy. Of the patients from the calcitonin group, 1/3 experienced pain relief which was obviously independent from the effects of the polychemotherapy or hormonal treatment. Since only subjective criteria for skeletal pains were used and no therapy arm with calcitonin alone was studied, the results of the study are critically analyzed together with other reports about calcitonin and bone metastases. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
