Abstract
On an ample amount of specimens transformation of the uteroplacental secondary vascular wall in the stratum compactum of the endometrium was studied during the decidual reaction. The author was able to establish that the plain muscle cells within the vessel wall develop into decidua cells. They are equally susceptible to become polynucleous giant cells, the maternal origin of which can conclusively be deduced from the sex chromatin of their nuclei. Keywords
