Abstract
Nine annual Medicago species, including several lines of each, and three cultivars of Trifolium subterraneum were tested for sensitivity to waterlogging in a glasshouse experiment. The Medicago species were generally more sensitive to waterlogging than T. subterraneum, but there were large differences between species, and in some instances between lines of the one species. The most tolerant species were M. polymorpha, M. arabica and M. intertexta. The most sensitive were M. scutellata, M. tornata and M. minima.
