PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY IN RATS WITH HYPOTHALAMIC LESIONS

Abstract
Electrolytic lesions involving the arcuate nucleus in the posterior tuberal region of the hypothalamus of 8 female rats resolved in significantly earlier vaginal opening and first estrus than in unoperated controls. Lesions in other areas of the hypothalamus hippocampus, cortex and thalamus were not associated with precocious puberty.
