Abstract
Ligation of vessels and rearing at 4[degree]C increased survival in newts undergoing total hepatectomy. A maximum survival time of 71 days was recorded for totally hepatec-tomized newts. Homotransplants of whole liver into the abdominal cavity of the totally hepatectomized newt was successful in 2 of 12 cases. Homografting of left hepatic lobes (10-20%) was successful in 12 of 22 cases, hyperplasia occurring in 5 of these animals. Homo-grafts of 75% of the liver was successful in only one of 12 newts. Keywords
