Pharmacologic Management of Childhood Asthma

Abstract
A practical outline of the treatment of asthma with drugs is offered, including the rationale and principles on which it is based. During some stages of asthma, treatment is balanced to allow optimum growth, activity, and development. At other times the objective becomes to prevent and reverse life-threatening bronchial obstruction, and the emphasis is then on early and vigorous treatment.Since the treatment given depends on the physician's assessment of the severity and progression of the airway obstruction, stress is placed on the value of frequent, objective measurements of lung function.
