Estimation of Plant Density Using Line Transects

Abstract
An examination is made of various methods of estimating number of plants per unit area from intercepts on line transects either directly or with the assistance of supplementary data. The use of these methods is illustrated by sampling an artificial population of irregular figures. The methods are likely to be of greatest interest when basal area is regarded as the primary measure and density only auxiliary.
