Abstract
The visual–acoustic signal system of Dissosteira carolina (L.) is described from field and laboratory observations. The form and occurrence of seven visual signals, seven visual–acoustic signals, and three behaviour patterns with possible signal function are described. The functions of these signals are discussed and a new functional category (interaction terminating) is proposed. Keywords
