A major electrophoretic component that was active in the pigeon crop sac assay was found in the pituitary gland of a pregnant woman. A similar component was seen in the pituitary of a woman who had been receiving estrogen. The component was present in only small amounts in an ovariectomized woman, in women after menopause, and in males.
