Abstract
Nicotine liberates 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin), histamine and the catecholamines from isolated rabbit platelets, the quantities depend on the length of incubation and the platelet concentration, much less on the incubation temperature but to a very marked extent on the pH of the medium. Liberation of the amines is inhibited by hydrazines and hydrazides. Higher concentrations of nicotine are needed for the liberation of histamine and catecholamines than for equimolar amounts of 5-HT. Liberation of all the biogenic amines from the platelets investigated is subject to the same conditions. Keywords
