MUCH has been said in the past about the relation of chronic irritation to the development of cancer. Recent concepts are more specific and put carcinogenesis on a physicochemical basis in which the time element plays a large part.1 2 3 4 5 6 Carcinoma in the tracheobronchial tree tends to occur in relation to smoking habits7 8 9 10 and in certain areas of the lungs.
