Familial Liver-Cell Adenomas and Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
A FAMILY has been recently encountered in which at least four members have liver-cell adenomas. All affected family members are diabetic, two also have sclerocystic ovaries, and two ancestors have died with hepatocellular carcinoma. This unusual familial prevalence with associated endocrine abnormalities may provide a clue to the cause of these rare hepatic lesions.Case ReportsCase 1. An 18-year-old insulin-dependent girl had sudden severe abdominal pain for which she underwent surgical exploration at another hospital. The presumptive diagnosis was acute cholecystitis.
