Abstract
The effect of sucrose, fructose, galactose and and lactose on the fecal excretion of biotin, riboflavin and PGA [folic acid] by the mature cotton rat was studied. Lactose promoted the intestinal synthesis of the 3 B-vitamins to an appreciable degree in all instances. Galactose tended to promote such synthesis but to a much lesser degree than did lactose. Sucrose and fructose produced some apparent intestinal synthesis of biotin and PGA. This result was explained on the basis that the high level of fat tends to increase intestinal synthesis. Keywords
