SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS. CRYOPRECIPITATION OF SERA

Abstract
Selected sera of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) demonstrated cryoprecipitation which was dependent on a heat labile serum factor. SLE patients with the above phenomenon exhibited manifestations of active disease. The heat labile factor was identified as a component of serum complement - IIS material. Purified cryoproteins consisted largely of immunoglobulins ([gamma] and [gamma] ^ globulins). The observation of complement dependent cryoprecipitation of SLE sera suggests that y -globulin aggregates, possibly immune complexes, exist in such sera.
