Abstract
Historically, social workers have excelled at reducing discrepancies between the current or future needs of populations and the resources available to satisfy these needs. This article proposes that such efforts are the domain of social work. In exploring the boundaries of the profession's aims and concerns, the author argues the nature of domain is the prime determinant of the nature of social work expertise. Keywords
