Apparent learning in the Paramecium.

Abstract
This study was an evaluation of 2 possible explanations of the modification of approach responses to a platinum wire by Paramecium aurelia following "training with reinforcement." On explanation involves learning the other unlearned reactions to the food used as reinforcement. Control groups of paramecia among which food was introduced without the "training" series showed behavior modifications essentially equivalent to those of the experimental groups. The durability of the approach response was found to depend on the presence of food material. The authors reject the learning interpretation.
