Abstract
A general description of a vegetatively growing pineapple plant[long dash]A. comosus var. Smooth Cayenne[long dash]just before floral differentiation is presented. The gross internal structure of the stem is descr., and the development and mature structure of tissues within this organ are given in some detail. An attempt is made, in describing the apical meristem of the main axis of this plant, to clarify and amplify the existent literature on monocotyledonous growing regions. A gross morphological and anatomical description is presented of the lateral branch or axillary buds. The anatomy of the pineapple is compared with that of other bromeliaceous spp.
