Abstract
Presentation of Case*A fifty-five-year-old plumber was referred to the hospital because of fever.Sixteen months previously a subtotal tracheal resection, a subtotal thyroidectomy and a sternal tracheostomy were performed for a squamous-cell carcinoma of the trachea, with invasion of the thyroid gland; no metastases to lymph nodes were found. An x-ray film of the chest taken at that time was normal (Fig. 1). Except for intermittent obstruction of the airway caused by the formation of crusts in the region of the anastomosis the postoperative course was uneventful, and he was able to return to work.Nine months before admission . . .Keywords
