Abstract
The spectral distribution and polarizadon of radiation from an electron gyratingultra-relativistically in a magnetic field are calculated. The result is used to calculate the principal emissivities of a distribution of high-energy electrons such as occurs in the Crab Nebula. It is shown that the degree of polarization of the emission increases with frequency, from two-thirds at radio frequencies to unity. The depolarizing factors affecting the intensity of the emergent rays are briefly discussed.
