Abstract
A new ascomycete is described which was frequently isolated from several soil samples collected in Barro Colorado Island, Panama Canal Zone, and Puerto Armuelles, Chiriqui Province, Panama. A comparison of the morphological characteristics of the new organism with related species was made. The fungus was placed in the genus Chaetoceratostoma as C. longirostre and in the family Ophio-stomataceae since the characteristics were more closely related than those found in such family representatives as Melano-spora and Lophotrichus.
