Abstract
Experiments with brain and liver mitochondria have demonstrated that the three phosphorylations linked to the electron-transport chain are not equally susceptible to the uncoupling action of cobra venom. The phosphorylation in the region of cytochrome oxidase is preferentially inactivated by heated venom. These observations have been made in direct experiments in vitro and with mitochondria obtained from animals injected with venom. Evidence obtained with mitochondria of animals injected with heated venom (phospholipase A) suggests that the phos-pholipids concerned with phosphorylations in the reduced diphospho-pyridine nucleotide-cytochrome c region are considerably resistant to the action of phospholipase A.Keywords
