Abstract
In this paper we discuss the structure of those oblique shocks which occur in plane hydromagnetic flow. We find that not all pairs of states satisfying the shock conditions can be linked by a one-dimensional flow of a viscous, electrically conducting fluid, while other pairs can be linked in more than one way. In the latter case a particular transition is singled out when further information is given concerning the three-dimensional problem of which the plane motion is an idealization. Keywords
