Induction of labour with vaginal prostaglandin E2pessaries

Abstract
Prostaglandin E2 vaginal pessaries (3 mg) were compared with conventional amniotomy and oxytocin infusion for induction of labour in a study comprising 100 primigravidae and 60 multigravidae in each group. The patients who received prostaglandin pessaries had a better outcome. The differences were greater for those patients with a low Bishop score (P < 0·01); the incidence of infants with low Apgar scores was lower and there were fewer postpartum haemorrhages (P < 0·01)
