New Species of Podapolipoides (Acari: Podapolipidae), Ectoparasites of Grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acrididae) in Australia and New Zealand, with Keys to World Species

Abstract

Six new species of Podapolipoides are described: from Australia; P. brevichelus from Schizobothrus flavovittatus Sjöstedt, P. houstoni from Locusta migratoria (L.), P. alatus and P. barmounti from Austracris guttulosa (Walker), and P. valangus from Valanga meleager (Sjöstedt), and from New Zealand; P. ramsayi from L. migratoria. All hosts are Acrididae (Orthoptera). Keys to Podapolipoides spp. are included.
