Abstract
The identification and comparison of accelerants is a problem which confronts the criminalist during the examination of evidence from suspected arson cases. The most common accelerants encountered in the investigation of arson are liquid hydrocarbons. The identification of these materials is complicated by the fact that they are not single chemical entities but complex mixtures of hundreds of different hydrocarbons. Keywords
