OROTRACHEAL ANAESTHESIA FOR BRONCHOSCOPY

Abstract
A method of general anaesthesia using thiopentone, nitrous oxide and oxygen, with full muscular relaxation, using suxamethonium, was employed in 120 patients undergoing bronchoscopy. After orotracheal intubation the lungs were ventilated by manual compression of the reservoir bag. This method was found to provide excellent conditions for the bronchoscopist Blood gas measurements in seven patients on samples taken before and at the end of bronchoscopy indicated that satisfactory pulmonary ventilation is obtained by this method.
