Metabolism of sulphur

Abstract
After a 36-hr, fast rats were given solns. of the exptl. compounds by catheter in 4 equal portions at hourly intervals. A total of 0.0178 m. equiv. of S per cm2 body surface was given (S = KW2/3 where k = 9.1). Cystine was administered in gum tragacanth, Na cystinate and methionine sulphoxide in aq. soln., methionine as the hydrochloride, and cysteinesulphinic acid and cysteic acid in neutral aqueous soln. 1 hr. after the last dose the liver was analyzed for glycogen. No indication was found that any of the compounds contributed to glycogen formation.
