Abstract
The Centers for Disease Control in 1981 reported an epidemic of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and Kaposi’s sarcoma in young previously healthy homosexual men (1,2). Additional reports have been published identifying viral, bacterial, fungal, and protozoan infections in this and other patient groups (3–5). Clinical observations and immunologic evaluations have defined an Acquired Immunologic Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in these patients (3–7).Keywords
