Abstract
Xenon difluoride and xenon tetrafluoride each dissolve in iodine pentafluoride but do not oxidize the solvent at ambient temperatures, even when the fluoride ion acceptor AsF5 is present. Although XeF2 forms an adduct XeF2,IF5, m.p. 98°,XeF4 does not. The Raman spectrum of the colourless solid, XeF2,IF5, is very nearly a composite of the spectra of XeF2 and IF5, suggesting that the compound is essentially molecular.
