Abstract
The Body Sway Teat was administered to 120 neurotic patients in two forms, first indirect and then direct. In the indirect form a rubber cuff was put around S's chest with the explanation that it would push him backwards while it was inflated. In the direct form falling backwards was directly suggested by E. Significant association between the 2 forms of body sway suggestibility has been established (phi = .38, p < .001). Ss who reacted to the indirect form usually reacted also to the direct one. However, of those Ss who did not react to the indirect form, 57 percent reacted to the direct form, indicating that direct suggestion in the Body Sway Test is more effective than the proposed indirect form.
