Delay of floral and leaf development by overtree irrigation in black walnut

Abstract
Overtree irrigation in black walnut (Juglansnigra L.) delayed leaf foliation by 6 days and delayed pollen maturation and pistillate receptivity by 5 days. Duration of the delay was theoretically long enough to avoid frost damage if a late frost had occurred but was insufficient to prevent pollen contamination.
